A restaurant of the Dans Le Noir chain, opened its doors in Barcelona and its main characteristic is that most of its employees are blind.

The chain already opened other branches in Paris, London and Moscow. In fact the first one was in Paris in 2004 and has since expanded its staff, having today 75 permanent employees, of whom 40% are blind.

The opening in Barcelona will take place on Monday December 28 and there will be nine blind waiters from a total of 16 employees. The menu will be kept in secret and diners will not be able to see what they eat, which ensures a particular taste experience.

Note that the official opening will be on December 31, on the 28 there will be only a preview.

The establishment aims to be a place for meetings, discussions and cultural exchanges, as well as the site of festivals and blind dates.

The restaurant is run by Christophe and Maite Sutter and is located on the Paseo Picasso of the Catalonian city. The kitchen is directerd by Hector Alejandro Perez. The chef combines flavors from Catalonia, Spain and the rest of the world, with French influences of the cheff of all ‘Dans Le Noir’ restaurants, Olivier Romain.

The Barcelona branch will also be dedicated to wine and cheese and suggest ’surprise discoveries’. Dans Le Noir notes that a blind food is also a new experiment from the social standpoint, as “not seeing your tablemate changes the way you act and react.”
